Petition by Louis Leo IV Ft. Lauderdale, FL

We the People of Facebook (hereinafter “We”, “Us” and “Our”) hereby declare & decree as follows:

Whereas Facebook is a self-proclaimed “social network” whose stated mission is “to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected”

Whereas Facebook severely and unjustly limits our ability to connect and share by, including but not limited to:

(a)continuously and arbitrarily removing our posts and other forms of speech without notice or an opportunity to be heard;

(b) charging us to share and connect with already established friends, family, subscribers and followers;

(c) capping friendships and blocking or banning users from being able to send friend requests;

(d) removing our pages without notice or an opportunity to be heard;

(e) blocking and banning us without notice or an opportunity to be heard; Whereas Facebook states that we are free to share and connect with one another, when in reality we are far too limited, and many of us are prevented from having any power or choice in what we can share and who we can share and connect with;

Where as we are continually and systematically subjected to arbitrary, unjust and anti-social policies and speech suppression by Facebook while its corporate sponsors and highest bidders are rewarded with the power to connect and share without limitation; Wherefore,

We demand that Facebook:

(1) Eliminate its pay-to-share policy with respect to friends, family, subscribers and other Facebook users we choose to connect with, who have liked our pages or otherwise expressed their intent to receive our status updates and other important information we share;

(2) Eliminate arbitrary spam filters which hide, remove or otherwise suppress our messages or other posts which have not been shared indiscriminately;

(3) Provide us with notice and an opportunity to be heard before Facebook removes any of our posts or other speech through a FAIR and PUBLIC appeal process;

(4) Provide us with notice and an opportunity to be heard before Facebook bans or blocks of our ability to connect and share (including but not limited to blocking our ability to friend and message one another) through a FAIR and PUBLIC appeal process;

(5) Remove our friendship cap. Unless and until the above-listed demands are met, We hereby pledge the following:

(i) We will not click any of Facebook’s sponsored advertisements or suggested links.

(ii) We will not pay for any of Facebook’s advertising services.

(iii) We will seek and make new homes on alternative social networks and encourage our friends, family and followers to join us on them.

Joyce Murphy MANASSAS, VA 3 months ago    Liked 7 You let vile pictures, VILE FILTHY language and porno pictures and posts from porno sites on fb that get shared by people I don’t know and end up on mine, but to voice our opinion on something that YOU people don’t agree with gets pulled or banned and you are suppose to be the “tolerant” ones. You are a joke to humanity

They are hampering my freedoms by not allowing me to post comments of protest; which is within our rights. Deleting my posts on religious unity and spirituality. Censoring what i can hear. They are showing a bias. Without consultation!!!

laura poisel CEDAR RAPIDS, IA about 1 month ago    Liked 1 I have been falsely accused and censored a few times since I joined just over a year ago. No explanations, not even a chance to defend myself. I don’t believe that Facebook follows it’s own rules. They certainly have no place to censor anyone. PERIOD!

Jacob Forrester EVERETT, WA about 1 month ago    Liked 1 And american business owner should display the freedom that his country SHOULD have. Not be bought of by those corrupt animals that own the country now.

Patrick Rohrer WILEN, SWITZERLAND 3 months ago    Liked 1 I can’t get in touch with people I know from abroad coz FB thinks I’m ‘inviting people I don’t know’…

Elizabeth Smith CINCINNATI, OH 3 months ago    Liked 1 If I get one more photo reported I’m disabled from my page! What in the world?!?! For posting pictures OF MY CHILDREN that were friends only. I was warned once, then a few hours later blocked for 24 hours, then the next day or so more reported and blocked for 3 days, then told if I “offend” or whatever again I’m disabled from my account. For posting pictures of my kid almost 2yrs old and some older pix (so younger) without a shirt on in her diaper. While other friends alllll over my friends list have pix of their kids in their diapers, in the nude etc. Fb never let me write to them. They don’t even GIVE you a way to contact them on the matter. It’s never been resolved in my mind. Because I’m always scared now to post what I want because of this threat to be disabled!!

Rachael Clare PRINCETON, TX 3 months ago    Liked 1 Because we have the right as citizens of the us to publish, post, and say whatever we want

Julie Martin SOUTH BEND, IN 3 months ago    Liked 1 Freedom of information and choice is of utmost importance!

Jason Lockhorst AUSTRALIA 3 months ago    Liked 1 Because if this becomes policed then what will be next!? The internet is one of the leading vessels that carries our message, only second to awakening people in the flesh. I sent 3 messages to facebook beginning early last year, asking why they repeatedly (approx 20x) threatening to temporarily suspend my account, or to suspend my account indefinately? when all i was doing was adding friends with similar interests from around the world, i thought what an amazing opportunity to collaborate my music with others, but they never replied. Now i am guiding my music towards the protest against the policing of our every movement and breath, in a single word enslavery.

COSTA MESA, CA 3 months ago    Liked 1 Because otherwise, this is going against our freedom of speech – which I fought for our country to defend! If people are offended by what people post — they can *leave* the page! STOP THIS ARBITRARY CENSORSHIP! kym dawson

REYNELLA, AUSTRALIA 3 months ago    Liked 1 I believe in an open society and an open facebook for all to see and share…I don’t want to be kept in an isolated bubble for the purposes of direct marketing and censorship!

Benjamin Hickerson FORT LORAMIE, OH 3 months ago    Liked 1 Censorship of any type is wrong, in the case of facebook, if someone is offended they have the option to not follow that page or unfriend that person, its very easy to just not look when you have to intentionally go to a page to see it in the first place

Gabriel Szoke SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO 3 months ago    Liked 1 I especially hate the pay-to-share policy. That’s simply robbery. You restrict our reach, then charge us to get beyond that barrier? What crap!
